The largest fish in the sea (reaching lengths of 12 metres), whale sharks are filter feeders and feed on plankton. Whale sharks populate warm tropical waters and migrate every spring to the central West coast of Australia where the coral spawning areas of the Ningaloo Reef provide the whale sharks with an abundant supply of plankton.
